Six experiences for your Travel Bucket List

Six experiences for your Travel Bucket List

I’m sure we all have a list of places we’d love to visit and things we’d love to see. Here is my list of 6 suggestions for places to consider adding to your bucket list if you haven’t already done so.

1. See the Northern Lights

If you haven’t already witnessed one of nature’s greatest displays for yourself, we suggest you do! The Arora Borealis lights up the sky in beautiful colours and patterns – most definitely a must-see at least once in your lifetime!

Occurring most often in the Arctic region, this sight alone has become one of the primary reasons people fly north for a winter break. Best seen between Spetember and April, Iceland, Norway, Sewden, Finland and even Scotland are all top choices of where to go to witness this stunning natural phenomenon.

2. Take a great American road trip

A number of books, music and films have added glamour to scenic road trips through the States.

Enjoy an amazing coast-to-coast drive and take in the almost otherwordly scenery, while making the experience truly your own along the way. I thoroughly recommend California, and can arrange bespoke itineraries to suit your personal preferences. Check out my California Road Trips blog for some ideas.

3. Dive the Great Barrier Reef

Rated as one of the seven wonders of the natural world, the Great Barrier Reef stretches for 1430 miles along the Queensland coast and is the worlds’ largest protected marine area.

Discover the tropical fish, turtles, reef sharks, dolphins and literally thousands of species while exploring one of nature’s finest creations. You can take diving trips from many places along the east coast, we suggest Queensland, or why not consider a luxury liveaboard for a more intense diving experience?

4. Trek to Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is an Incan citadel set high in the Andes Mountains in Peru, above the Urubamba River valley. Built in the 15th century and later abandoned, its exact former use remains a mystery to this day. Enjoy the enchanting views high in the eastern slopes of the Andes, covered with tropical forests from the upper Amazon Basin. Don't leave it too long, there are plans to close it to the public in the coming years to protect the ancient site.

5. Marvel at the Taj Mahal

One of the world’s most famous buildings is certainly a sight to behold, with its ivory-white marble in the Indian city of Agra.

The Taj Mahal attracts a whopping 7-8 million visitors every year and in 2007 was declared a winner of the New 7 Wonders of the World. Escorted touring is a great way to see this country and immerse yourself in the culture, while enjoying luxury hotels.

6. Witness the Great Wildebeest migration

From July through to October every year, over two million animals migrate from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the greener pastures of the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, and this spectacular annual event has been classed as one of the 7 natural wonders of the New World. Maybe less famous, but no less spctacular is the annual migration of around 20,000 gray whales which make an epic 12,000-mile annual round trip between Alaska and Mexico November through April. They travel from feeding grounds in the Bering Sea to mating and breeding lagoons along the coast of Baja California in Mexico. Aside from the great wildebeest migration in Africa, this is one of the most amazing wildlife migrations on the planet.
